Europe has set the goal “By 2030, all plastic packaging brought into the EU market can be reused or can be recycled to be cost effective.”
 
Brussels label's priority was to limit and minimize the amount of plastic used once but took 5 seconds to produce, 5 minutes to use, and 500 years to decompose. However, paper packaging will biodegrade within two months in the ocean.
The topic of paper packaging production is very prominent in current discussions on waste management. While some packaging materials with other materials are condemned as problematic and very harmful to the environment, paper packaging is naturally produced, serving as a potential alternative compared to fossil raw materials.
 
Corrugated paper is made from simple components: bubble paper with adhesive made from wheat or corn. This means that if this corrugated paper is discarded in nature, it will slowly decompose, becoming harmless to the environment.
 
However, the corrugated paper industry in Europe wants to recycle all fibers. Corrugated paper packaging is 100 percent recyclable, and this fiber material can be reused up to 25 times.

Paperboard and paper packaging have achieved a high recycling rate

In 2016, 81.9% of all paper documents in Europe were recycled. This is a great number, but we can do even better. The new paper recycling goals set by the EU Commission (85% completed by 2030) will encourage the industry to continue to make greater efforts and contribute more to building a circulating economy in Europe.
 
Paper packaging is made up of 88% recycled materials with additional fresh wood fibers from tightly managed forests. While carton packaging is using very good secondary materials, the need for separation of paper and paperboard is increasing.
